Specialty Coffee with Chinese Inspired Flavors
Mù Coffee started with a UT love story—one brewed over cups of coffee and a shared passion for good food. 🤎
Juan and Genny first met at UT Austin, bonding over their love for food and coffee. After graduation, Genny landed a job at Google, and Juan—determined to keep their adventure going—followed her to California. There, he honed his barista skills at Blue Bottle in Palo Alto, diving deep into the craft of coffee-making. During the pandemic, they road tripped from city to city before settling back home in Austin.
While Austin's coffee scene is thriving, there isn't much representation of Chinese flavors. And so, Mù Coffee was born—a passion project blending specialty coffee with Chinese-inspired flavors, bringing something unique to the local scene.
For me, food has always been a way of building community & bridging cultures. As an ABC (American Born Chinese), I struggle sometimes between my identities. Food is one of the main ways I stayed rooted to my Chinese side. After working in big tech & hospitality tech, I'm combining my business skills & passion for food together.
From instant coffee in the Amazon to "Marroncitos" on the streets of Caracas, coffee has always been a part of my life. Whenever I visit a new city, I make it a tradition to explore its coffee scene. With a growing specialty coffee culture, the coffee shops in China were bold and unique. Although green onion coffee was not great, the trip inspired us to bring our own take on Chinese coffee to Austin.
Mù Coffee is an expression of ourselves through both the craft of coffee and our unique homemade syrups and flavors. We have dreams of opening a brick-and-mortar shop in the future. Until then, you can find us pouring our hearts (and our coffee) at pop-ups around town!
